Carryconcealed.net review team looks at the Wildview Xtreme Trail cam model STC-TGL2M for Home Defense.

Home defense is a process of proactive, reactive and a plan. The trail cam can be a low cost way of seeing who is around your house. The advantage is that you can place the trail cam in several different modes.  If you have lots of light you can use .Avi movie files. There is also 3 frames picture burst with automatic flash when needed. There a lot of advantages for using a trail cam. In our case we have several people stealing gas and casing out our home. We were able to get a truck in our driveway at 2:57 am. They sat in the drive way for 7 min and were trying to figure out how to get the trail cam or something worse. The pictures are being kept for identification for future reasons. My Granddad always said nothing good comes from folks after 12:00. We also have pictures of several other people walking around the house looking in the windows. We have had gas stolen from our truck and It will be fun to see if we can get a picture of the folks stealing the gas. At $100 per tank it would have already paid for itself if I had installed it already. Pictured above is a deer in our front yard talking to a raccoon. The other camera caught the guys in the driveway several days earlier.

The Wildview has great features and we got ours at Sams for $110.00, the security cable $15.00, external power pack $58, and memory stick $38. We found the same stick at Best buy for $19 and bought a few extras.  The camera needs to be secured and put in a place where it is not easy to get to for tampering.  The optional cable is worth the cost because it allows for securing to a pole or tree. The bar across the camera also locks the camera from being opened by an unauthorized visitor.  The picture above is one in the yard trying to get early arrivals. For the house we built a frame on a pole that allows for easy installation and a standard picture view. An additional pad lock is needed to secure the cable.  We even tried to place the camera inside a window, but the infrared would not work through the glass. Getting a card reader is also something you will want if you are going to be using these on a regular basis. This can be purchased at Best Buy for $39. The total cost for the solution was $293.00. You do need to have a computer to down load the pictures and movies.

The results are very impressive. You can get a date/time stamp on very clear pictures. With the cable system and the external power source you can leave the trial cam for weeks at a time as long as you use the 2mg memory card.  You will need to practice with the camera to get the best viewing angle and to get the right date and time. The clock is a 24 hour clock so us non military types have to use a calculator to set the clock. While this is a picture of our front yard, we would have never known the deer came by if the camera had not been out taking the pictures.

Again, this is a reactive solution but it does provide two things; proof of who or what is around your house and the flash of the 3 picture burst will let bad guys know that the place is being watched electronically. The one thing to remember is that this low cost solution is only one part of the entire home defense plan. Get your plan together and then implement the plan for a safe home.  We just got this picture of a Moutian Lyon walking acrross the yard. We were expecting guys stealing gas and we got Monty. We will be adding new Wildview pictures as we get them. Maybe you can recognize one or two of the bad guys. If you have a Wildview Trail cam security story send it in.

Happy trails and keep the lead down range. Clark – Carryconcealed.net
