Default Another Newbie Here in South Carolina

I just found this website late last week while searching for some reloading supplies. I've been a CWP holder since the bill was first passed here in 1996 and spent a couple of years as an assistant instructor for the course.

I've been in the military for 17 years in the munitions career field with a brief stint with the security forces after 9/11. Originally from Tennessee I came here after a 3 year tour in England.

Great forum, I'm looking forward to learning from you folks!

Welcome to the forum, feel free to post. Did South Carolina not have concealed carry before 1996, or only may issue? I am sure when the legislation passed the antis told everyone "blood will run in the streets"! "Fender benders will result in shootouts" "It will be like the OK corral" "The sky is falling"!

I believe we were a may issue state before 1996 but I'm not sure. I landed here in 1993 and didn't tune into the law until I heard about potential concealed carry gaining momentum while I was at the rod and gun club busting clay birds.

I've been trying to find crime statistic trends lately for my local town but I can't seem to find good historical data that would demonstrate any difference. We did make the nations' #5 slot for violent crime per capita late last year and lately things just seem to be getting worse. I had actually become lazy and complacent in the last few years about carrying and almost never carried but that has all changed in the last few weeks. There was a home invasion 6 miles from my house where the broke in and killed the resident execution style. No suspects, no clues, no leads. Last week there was an armed robbery at a convince store 5 miles away and a few hours later another home invasion 11 miles from my house.

Let's just say I've awoken from a slumber and my eyes are wide open.

Welcome to the forum. It's great to hear of another person realizing their need to take personal responsibility for their safety.

Crime in my area is also rising dramatically. Just in the last two months there have been thefts at about 1/3 of the houses on my street. And this used to be a very good area! There have even been some auto thefts.

Thanks for your service too.

No crime to report in my neighborhood. When I hear gun shots its one of the neighbors shooting in their backyard range or someone hunting. Of course living in the sticks most people have firearms and dogs. My neighborhood isn't probably a particularly good one to do burglaries in. It would be nice to have LTC when I go to town. Last fall a local bank was robbed and they just caught the two guys, one was a local cop. He's in jail on $1 million bond, it was an armed robbery and he used his serivice handgun, don't suppose he'll be out before his trial.

I too am originally from Tennessee. I have spent the last 19 years between Texas, New Mexico, and California. I have been back in Texas since January of 2000. The semiconductor industry had me moving around for a while. It is also what lured me away from Tennessee at the age of 31.
